Description
A Ginori Maiolica Trefoil Footed Bowl, Circa 1890
the interior painted with an Istoriato scene of figures approaching a river god before a body of water, the blue-ground exterior moulded with leafy branches, the handles formed as gaping beasts, blue crowned Ginori script mark, numeral 24.
height 9 1/4 in.; width 16 1/4 in.

For an image of the Ginori stand at the Espozione Nazionale, Milan in 1881 see "Im Sinne der Alten: Italienische Majolika des Historismus, exh. cat., Hamburg, 1995, p. 11 which includes two similar basins and pp. 38-9, no. 10 for a related from of "Bacino trilobato". The shape is derived from a 16th century prototype, for a similar form see T. Wilson & C. Maritano, 'L'Italia del Rinascimento Lo slendore della maiolica', exhibition catalogue, Turin, 2019, p, 37, no. 16.
