A Rare Chinese Export 'Orange Fitzhugh' 'Eagle' Oval Sauce Tureen and Cover
Qing Dynasty, Jiaqing Period, circa 1810-20

for the American market, each piece painted on either side with an eagle emblazoned with a shield monogrammed BSP above the motto E Pluribus Unum
7⅝ in. (19.4 cm.) long
Several services are recorded decorated in orange Fitzhugh with eagles with the shields enclosing initials. Pieces from the present service, which have the initials variously transcribed as BSP or BLP may be found in the Collection of the Diplomatic Reception Rooms, U.S. Department of State, Washington D.C.
