The face pattern of this portrait is based on the 'Darnley' portrait in the National Portrait Gallery, London. No other representation of the face of Queen Elizabeth I has been so widely disseminated. Other examples that are similar in style to the present work can be seen in Gloriana: The Portraits of Queen Elizabeth I by Roy Strong.(1)
