The ‘Mareographe’ was Heuer’s version of the ‘Seafarer’ that was made specifically for Abercrombie & Fitch – the firm’s US retail partner. As specified by the name - 'marée' being 'tide' in French - the Mareograph was designed for the sailing community and was the first chronograph to have tide level indication for regattas.
Both the Heuer and Abercrombie versions share the same reference number ‘2444’ and dial layout, and were produced in 4 executions. The present watch is a second execution example with silvered dial, dauphine luminous hands, applied steel baton markers and blue accents to the tide indicators. Most reference 2444’s were made for the American market as the Abercrombie clientele was more focused on coastal and outdoor pursuits, whereas Heuer’s European buyers were more focused on automobile and racing. This Mareographe presented today offers collectors a rare opportunity to own this incredible watch in exceptional condition.
