Partridge Fine Arts, London
The composition of this mirror displays affinities with the designs of the London woodcarver Matthias Lock (c.1710-1765), who appears to have worked for Thomas Chippendale and who supplied an important pair of pier tables and mirrors to the Tapestry Room at Hinton House, Somerset in c.1745 (now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London). Lock was a prolific draughtsman and key influence in the dissemination of the rococo style in mid-Georgian England through the publication of his designs, including Six Sconces in 1744, A Book of Ornaments in 1747 and A New Book of Ornaments in 1752.
