Reference 725 was launched in 1940, a year before the reference 1518 and 1526, and was produced until at least 1981. It was made in two main series, the first with four subsidiary dials and the second commonly known as the ‘American calendar display’, which is a calendar in which the date is displayed in a single linear aperture allowing for a clearly legible dial which could be read at a glance. This type of display was invented in the early Art Deco period and is most often found in watches destined for the Anglo-American market. The case, with very crisp and sharp lines, is very reminiscent of the perpetual calendar wristwatches made by Patek Philippe at the time, most notably the perpetual calendar references 3448 and 3450. This reference and similar watches made during this period are now popular with wristwatch collectors due to the very similar case designs.
