This panel once formed part of an altarpiece, possibly a triptych, from the collection Oskar Reinhart, a Swiss arts patron and avid art collector. Another panel from the same altarpiece depicting St James giving a crown to a pilgrim was sold at Sotheby’s Olympia on 7 December 2004, lot 431.
