F.G. Meijer and A. van der Willigen, A Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Still-Life painters working in oils 1525–1725, Leiden 2003, p. 36.
Described by Meijer and Van der Willigen as 'an extremely prolific still life', this painting is the largest recorded painting by the Amsterdam painter Claes Bergoijs. The work's rarity is compounded by its landscape format, which was approached very few times by the artist.
