First introduced in 2010, the Patek Philippe reference 5170 replaced its predecessor reference 5070, continuing the legacy of a manually wound, two-register chronograph wristwatch. With high collectability, the present watch houses the very first in-house, manual wound chronograph movement by the Swiss manufacturer. The architecture of the watch was reminiscent of the legendary reference 1463 with applied baton markers and elongated Roman numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock.
What differentiates it from other pure chronographs is the pulsometer scale on the periphery of the dial. While it is a rare occurrence with watches featuring the scale, the function is not as practical as it used to be. However, it pays homage to the popularity of these doctor watches being utilized to save lives in the past. With great readability and a slim profile, the reference 5170 is a classic wristwatch that can be worn from formal board meetings to casual weekend walks.
