Description
Property from the Collection formed by the Duc de Talleyrand
Marco Ricci
Belluno 1676 - 1730 Venice
Landscape with travelers by rustic buildings
Pen and brown ink and grey and brown wash with touches of green and red wash
164 by 220 mm; 6½ by 8⅝ in.
This charming, rustic landscape was previously attributed to Bernardo Bellotto (see Literature), but it is more comparable in style to the work of Marco Ricci. In fact, Morassi, in his 1958 catalogue entry, even remarked that the figures were reminiscent of those seen in Marco Ricci's drawings.
A comparable landscape drawing by Ricci is in the Royal Collection, at Windsor Castle.1
