With its highly unusual pierced foot and bat-shaped handles, the 'herdboy and fisherman' bottle in the present group lot was inspired by a group of late 18th-century imperial inscribed chalcedony bottles of similar shape. With the economy initiated by the Jiaqing Emperor's ascent to the throne, the Court commissioned numerous porcelain bottles modelled after imperial bottles made of other materials.
