This fine bronze belongs to a group of plaques of the same subject traditionally associated with Francesco Fanelli (1577- after 1658). However, a more convincing attribution to the Milanese-born sculptor Giacomo Antonio Moro has been proposed based on a version initialled GAM to the reverse, which sold at Christie's, London, on 9 December 1980, lot 170. Moro was a medallist and coin engraver who was Master of the Papal Mint from 1610 until 1624, under Paul V and Gregory XV.
