The reference 1675 GMT was introduced in 1959 and stayed in production for over two decades until 1980, making it one of the longest produced references in the iconic history of Rolex. The model was commissioned by Pan-Am to help pilots understand the effect of long distance travel. The second time zone hand provide them with the ability to easily read 24 hour time for a given time zone.
During the production run of the 1675, there were many changes and variations made to the reference, both with respect to the dial and the case as well. For example, the present watch is a coveted Mk1 iteration, featuring a “string-like” coronet and long “E” within the word Rolex. These small variations of the watch and the different versions of dials are details which have fascinated enthusiasts of Rolex for decades.
