[APOLLO 16]

COMMAND MODULE PILOT KEN MATTINGLY PERFORMING AN EVA. 25 APRIL 1972.

Vintage NASA “Red Number” chromogenic color photograph, 10 by 8 inches, “A Kodak Paper” watermark, press captions printed in purple to verso. NASA image ID “NASA S-72-37001” printed in upper left margin in red.

An image of CMP Ken Mattingly performing an EVA during the Apollo 16 trans-Earth coast. Mattingly was assisted by LMP Charlie Duke as they inspected the SIM Bay (Service Module), and retrieved film from the Mapping and Panoramic Cameras. Mattingly was wearing Commander John Young's helmet (signified by the red stripe), as its lunar EVA visor assembly helped protect Mattingly's eyes from the bright sun.
