Description
A very rare Meissen inscribed and dated beaker, 1726
of tapering cylindrical form, moulded around the rim with a band of pendant calyces and applied above the foot with stiff acanthus leaves alternating with gilt scroll devices, painted, by J. G. Höroldt, on the front with a Chinoiserie scene of an artist seated at a low table with a teapot and strewn with artist's materials, working on a tablet, supported by another figure and bearing the inscription Beate/Chriftina/Keilen/Den 16.Sep/1726 in lustre, a further figure observing the scene at the left, within a Böttger lustre iron-red, puce and gilt foliate scrollwork-edged quatrefoil cartouche, the reverse with indianische Blumen and birds, unmarked.

Recovered from the above by Allied Monuments Officers and transferred to the Central Collecting Point Munich (MCCP inv. no. 1620/7);
Repatriated from the above to Holland between 1945 and 1949;
Loaned by the Dutch State to the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam in 1952 and transferred to the museum in 1960;
Restituted by the above to the heirs of Margarethe and Franz Oppenheimer in 2021
