Ferdinand I, Tsar of Bulgaria (1861-1948)

Sultan Abdul-Hamid II of Turkey (1842-1918) gifted this pair of cufflinks to Ferdinand I of Bulgaria in 1898. At that time the newly found Bulgarian Principality was still technically considered subordinate to the Ottoman Empire but with a large degree of autonomy guaranteed by the Great Powers of Europe.
