Watercolour and bodycolour on vellum, mounted on prepared card, gold frame, the verso engraved with a coat of arms;

signed with the artist's initials centre left: IH, inscribed lower right: AEt: 35:

55 by 47 mm.

In 1623 the sitter inhertied his family's baronetcy upon the death of his father: Sir Samuel Peyton, 1st Bt. of Knowlton Court, Kent. Sir Thomas served as a member of parliament between 1640-1644 and later from 1661 to 1679. During the Civil War he fought for the King.
