A handsome set of Marais's first four books of music for the viol.
Marin Marais (1656-1728) was one of the outstanding figures in French Baroque music and one of the first French instrumentalists to make his mark as a solo performer (TNG, xv, pp.795-796). The continuo bass part of the third livre, especially, as exquisitely engraved as the viol part, is notable for the terminal floral decorations to many of the pieces.
