TWO SHIN-SHINTO KATANA, EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY
The first:
Sugata [configuration]: Hon-zukuri, tori-zori, chu-kisaki with bo-hi
Kitae [forging pattern]: Ko-mokume-hada almost muji-hada
Hamon [tempering pattern]: A wide and varried gunome-choji with an occasional togari and many ashi throughout in nioi
Boshi [tip]: The indistinct boshi appears to continue the irregular hamon with kaire
Nakago [tang]: An ubu nakago with kesho-yasuri with kuri-jiri signed Moto Kunimitsu saku
Habaki [collar]: Silver
Koshirae [mount]: In Shin-gunto mount including a silver mon and officer's tassel
Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 69.8 cm., 271/2 in.
Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: 3.1 cm., 11/4 in.
Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 2.1 cm., 7/8 in.
The second:
Sugata [configuration]: Shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, shallow tori-zori
Kitae [forging pattern]: Probably muji hada
Hamon [tempering pattern]: Medium-wide suguha
Boshi [tip]: Appears to be ko-maru with kaeri
Nakago [tang]: Ubu with a single mekugi-ana, ha-agiri, kuri-jiri, mume,
Habaki [collar]: copper
Koshirae [mount]: In saya with ishime lacquer-style with kuri-kata, koi-guchi and ko-jiri in black lacquer
Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 72.1 cm., 283/8 in.
Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: 2.1 cm., 7/8 in.
Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 3.8 cm., 11/2 in.
