This painting is based on a panel in the Kunsthalle Bremen ^[1], which has traditionally been attributed to Jan Brueghel the Younger and Sir Peter Paul Rubens, although Klaus Ertz believes that the figures were painted by someone in the circle of Peter Paul Rubens rather than by the master himself ^[2]. The prime version of this composition was so popular that numerous copies, such as the present lot, exist.
