Description
Join Burning Man Project CEO Marian Goodell and renowned visual artists Leo Villareal and Hank Willis Thomas for a conversation about the challenges of moving from small to larger-scale work, the role of art in civic life, and Black Rock City as a canvas for artistic experimentation. Both a cultural movement and an annual event, Burning Man has been called one of the most influential phenomenons in contemporary American art and culture today.
Marian Goodell leads Burning Man Project's efforts to extend the Burning Man ethos globally. In its pursuit of a more creative and connected world, the organization provides inspiration, connection, education, and grants to a global ecosystem of community leaders, makers, artists, and innovators. Leo Villareal's work focuses on stripping systems down to their essence to better understand the underlying structures and rules that govern how they work. He has received international acclaim for The Bay Lights, a monumental 1.8 mile-long installation of 25,000 white LED lights on San Francisco's Bay Bridge, which has since become a permanent installation, and Illuminated River, which graces London's 15 bridges spanning the River Thames. Hank Willis Thomas' work is devoted to reframing perspectives on difficult issues central to American history and the representation of race and the politics of visual culture. His work' unbrands' advertising: stripping away the commercial context, and leaving the exposed image to speak for itself. Both of these artists' work is in the permanent collections of major museums around the world.
This experience can be enjoyed by the winning bidder and up to 5 guests for a maximum of 60 minutes.
