Description
A MONUMENTAL IVORY-INLAID WOOD CABINET COMPOSED OF MAMLUK PANELS, EGYPT AND EUROPE, 15TH AND 19TH CENTURY
comprising carved ivory and wood Mamluk and post-Mamluk elements set in a geometric format, inserted into two door panels, with hinged openings to reveal a compartment with three shelves, surmounted by three open archway and pseudo-stalactite ceiling, the side decorated with geometric panels, the reverse plain
235 by 145 by 42cm.

Private collection since the 1980s, acquired in Holland.
The cabinet overall worn, with associated scratches, rubbing, nicks and discoloration, one ivory calligraphic panel loose but re-attachable, the metal hinges oxidised, the upper panel in a separate component, two later internal shelves loose and would need to be re-affixed by a professional restorer, with cracks and opened sections between panels, two areas with original key-holes filled in, the base with particular wear and scratches, as viewed.
