In 2000, Audemars Piguet announced the ‘City of Sails, Be Happy’ chronograph to be produced in just 300 examples to celebrate the Swiss challenger to the America’s Cup in Auckland, New Zealand. The name can be seen engraved on the case back and refers to the city of Auckland, a historic maritime and sailing mecca. The case and bracelet are constructed from brushed and polished titanium, a lightweight and hardwearing material that is notoriously tough and hard to work with. The tapisserie dial is a distinctive blue, evoking of the ocean and is accentuated with yellowed accented hands and hour markers.
