Artefacts: commissioned by the present owner in 1992
Collage: gift from the artist to the present owner
This group of Artefacts from the Souvenirs series was commissioned by the present owner following his first visit to Infante’s studio in Moscow in 1990. In 1992 the artist, his wife Nonna Goriunova and their son Platon were invited to stay at the collector’s house in Paris, where Infante realised a series of four Artefacts featuring famous Parisian landmarks: Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Pyramid by I.M. Pei and the Arc de Triomphe. During the same trip, while staying at the collector’s house in La Roche Jaune in Brittany, near Alexander Calder’s house, the artist executed another series of artefacts called Geometric Horizons (lot 45). Two copies of each series were developed, one for the artist and one for the present owner, at the Laboratoire Central Color in Paris. Upon the artist’s return to Moscow, his own set of photographs was exhibited at his e solo show at the State Tretyakov Gallery and was reproduced in the exhibition catalogue (Francisco Infante: Artefakty, Moscow: State Tretyakov Gallery, 1992)
The collage included in this lot was a gift from the artist to the present owner.
