Pen and grey ink and point of the brush and grey wash over black chalk;
bears inscription in German, verso, identifying the subject and also an attribution in black chalk: G. Maes, also bears numberings in red chalk 7641 and 7533 (crossed out) and in black chalk: 297

Gerard Hoet trained with his father and brother, who were glass painters from Zaltbommel. His oeuvre mainly consists of mythological and religious subjects within landscape settings. He also painted portraits as well as designing many illustrations for bibles. His career was spent mainly in The Hague and Utrecht but he also spent a year in Paris.
