The Reverso was launched in 1931 following a request a polo player made to Swiss entrepreneur César de Trey for a watch which would sustain the physical strain induced by the sport. The project was passed on to Jacques-David LeCoultre, who came up with the patented reversible case design. The polo players could easily flip the case around to protect the watch face from impacts, revealing a personalized engraving to the back. The Reverso has been an absolute cult classic since its inception with little to no change in its reversible case design.
