The attribution of this elegant portrait has eluded many scholars. The figure of the girl to the left resembles the paintings by Cornelis de Vos and other portrait painters in Southern Netherlands, while the figure of the boy resembles the paintings by Jan Claesz and other artists in Northern Netherlands.
We are grateful to Nadja Garthoff and Sabine Craft-Giepmans for their assistance with the cataloguing of this painting on the basis of photographs.
