Francois Arp, Jean Arp, Sculpture 1957-1966, London, 1968, no. 347, p. 390 (marble version illustrated)
Jean Arp conceived the present model of Bourgeon d’éclair one year before his death in 1966. As a late and mature work, this sculpture is part of his famous biomorphic series executed in materials such as polished bronze, marble and granite. Due to the purity of shape and immaculate polished surface, these sculptures suggest an impression of a soft and ever-evolving movement, characteristic of Biomorphism also known as “Non Cubist Abstraction”. This polished bronze Bourgeon d’éclair is the second from a small edition of five, often considered as the culmination of Jean Arp's later works.
