From 1988 until the turn of the century, Rolex used a modified Zenith based movement to power their Daytonas. Housing a 4030 movement, the Rolex Daytona 16518 is one of the many references that is included in the run. This lot has a few features that distinguish it from a standard Daytona, as the yellow gold case features a ‘panda’ dial set with diamond indices.
Circa 1993, the present lot is also known as an ‘Inverted 6’ due to the fact that the subdial at the 6 o’clock has an upside down 6 indicating the hours function of the chronograph.
As if any Rolex needs more reasons to be collectible, the present lot is highly desired by enthusiasts due to the error seen on the dial.
