Description
An Egyptian Quartzite or Sandstone Relief Fragment
19th Dynasty, Reign of Ramesses II, 1279-1213 B.C.
carved in sunk relief with the figures of three men facing left each with their hands raised in a gesture of adoration, and wearing elaborate pleated garments and wigs, thirteen columns of inscription above, the first figure inscribed "a [...] in the Ramesseum in the estate of Amun called Ramesses [...]", the second one "his beloved son, Royal Scribe, General of the lord of the Two Lands, royal envoy to the ruler (or land) of the Hittites, Steward in the Ramesseum in the estate of Amun called Yupa," and the third one " [...] Overseer of Horses of the lord of the Two Lands, royal envoy to every foreign land, companion of the good god called Ramesses-nakht", the inscription beginning with a funerary offering prayer to a goddess "who resides in Hermopolis," with the epithets "lady of Heaven," and "mistress of the gods."
