The Mercedes-Benz R-Class was manufactured between 2005 and 2017. Internally, the R-Class was simply referred to as the “251 series”. It was presented to the public for the first time at the New York International Auto Show and positioned as an MPV for the luxury class. In the USA, considered the main sales market for the R-Class, it was delivered in 2005, and then in Europe a year later. From 2007 onwards, the name of the 251 series was revised and henceforth referred to as “SUV Tourer”. The series was withdrawn from the US market in mid-2012, and then in almost all other markets later in the year. It was only available as a long version in China until 2018. A total of 200,000 cars were produced.
