"Clémentine de la Féronnière has been working with the American photographer Anne Rearick since the publication of her book Township (2016).

Shameless Hotel is part of a striking series focused on the Great West, where the photographer's family comes from: 'Some six decades earlier, in 1896, my great, great grandmother Maggie May Jones travelled from Lenepah, Oklahoma, to Idaho with her husband Robert and their two small children in a covered wagon with all of their belongings and a whole lot of dreams. The best memories of my childhood were those summer days spent with Maggie Jones' grandson, my grandfather, (a doppelgänger for Robert Mitchum) fishing salmon and rainbow trout in his small boat at Arrowrock Dam in the Foothills outside of Boise.'

Rearick works on a long-term basis, plunging as deep as she possibly can into the daily lives of her subjects. Her black and white images taken using an analogue Hasselblad camera, goes well with their large square 6 x 6 format and allows her to reproduce minute details such as the horizon in the background landscape in a cinematographic atmosphere. Her work is part of the great tradition of humanist documentary photography that includes Dorothea Lange and Diane Arbus." - Clémentine de la Féronnière
