Description

A Model of a Biplane from WWI, Probably British

height 26½in. ; width 90 in.; length 74 in.

67.3 cm,; 228.5 cm.; 188 cm.

This model depicts a Royal Air Factory S.E.5a (Scout Experimental 5), one of the fastest aircrafts of the First World War. The version captured by this model is the S.E.5a, which was developed shortly after production of the original S.E.5, integrating a more powerful engine. The specific unit detailed was flown in France circa 1917 by Spencer Bertram Horn, an ace with the RAF.

Note: the RAF roundels are anachronistic. The

ratio at this time should be 1:3:5.

The ratio depicted on the model (1:2:3) did

not come into use until June 1947.
