PAUL MCCARTNEY

AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED, CONTINUED ON TYPEWRITER, TO ANGELA, C. 1963

discussing his handwriting versus his typing ("...Hello there! I thought I'd start off in my own writing - just to prove that I can write...well back to the typewriter..."), at which point he continues on the typewriter ("...That was my left handed scrawl, so that now, your friend can see why I type the letters. My typings just as bad I know, but at least I can blame the typewriter for it..."), signed ("... love Paul McCartney"), 1 page, folio, 20 Forthlin Rd, Allerton, Liverpool 18

[with:] photograph of McCartney, removed from a magazine, inscribed ("love to Anita. |Paul McCartney | xxx"), in blue ink

framed and glazed together (440 x 525mm), with engraved plaque

"...But seriously, we are busy, so I'll have to go,..."

This letter presumably dates from 1963, just as the Beatles were beginning their meteoric rise to fame. By the summer of that year 'She Loves You' was released and by the end of the year Beatlemania was at its peak.

20 Forthlin Road was the home of Paul McCartney from 1955 to 1964. The National Trust has labelled it "the birthplace of the Beatles" as it was where Lennon and McCartney began collaborating and the earliest rehearsals of the band took place.
