POTTER, BEATRIX
Four autograph letters signed (“Beatrix Potter” and “Beatrix Heelis”) to Millie Warne
stating wish to travel to London and stay with the recipient, remarking on quantity of milk from a cow, noting “…I have been photographing… the lambs before they depart! Oh shocking! It does not do to be sentimental on a farm, I am going to have some lambskin hearthrugs…”, on Christmas shopping, on killing a pig (“…the poor little cherub had such a sweet smile, but in other respects it was disagreeable. It is rather a shame to kill them so young; one has no sentimental feeling about a large bacon pig…”), Rupert Potter’s failing health, and a late wedding present (“…It is rather amusing to hear of a present still on the way! I feel as if I had been married many years…”), each 4 pages, 8vo, 30 August 1907 to 15 April 1914, Hill Top Farm, 2 Bolton Gardens and Sawrey Ambleside, some browning and folds
Millie (Amelia) Warne was the sister of Beatrix Potter’s fiancé and publisher, Norman Warne. After the death of Norman Warne in 1905, Beatrix Potter remained close to Millie and the two corresponded regularly.
