The present work depicts Mary Ann Cafferty, painted by Robert Henri late in his career when he lived and worked in Ireland and focused his attention on painting portraits of the local children he met in the villages on Achill Island. This work was painted in Corrymore in August of 1926. While the sitter does not match the title of the work, Pegeen, Henri would sometimes vary titles for exhibition, with the intent of keeping Mary Ann's name anonymous.
