Autograph working manuscript of part of his novel The Adventures of Philip


Comprising chapters 4 and 5 of the novel, in black ink with revisions and corrections throughout, with a frontispiece pen and ink sketch by Thackeray, autograph numbering in ink (chapter 5 originally "Chap. II"), also with pencil and red crayon marks for casting off, chapter headings also written in pencil on the mount, 26 pages, 8vo, [1861], window mounted and bound in crushed brown levant morocco gilt by Riviere, one leaf (fol. 3) neatly repaired


The Adventures of Philip on his Way Through the World was Thackeray's final completed novel. It was serialised in Cornhill from January 1861 to August 1862 and was published in book form in 1862.
