2000

The 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney is widely considered one of the most successful Olympic productions in recent history. Teams from 199 countries participated, and 80 countries brought home a medal, breaking the record held at the time. The US won 93 gold medals that year, and Vince “Vinsanity” Carter’s history-making dunk proved to be one of the most exciting and memorable highlights of the games.

Only a year after being named 1999 Rookie of the Year, Carter became a pivotal member of the Olympic USA basketball team, scoring an average of 14.8 points per game. Known as one of the best dunkers in the history of the sport, Carter made history at the Olympics when he achieved what would become known as the “Dunk of Death,” jumping over France’s 7’2” Frederic Weis, performing one of the most impressive and iconic dunks in basketball history. Carter’s style on the court and his dunking ability helped the US bring home a Gold Medal in Men’s Basketball.

This navy and white set is accented with red piping and embroidery. The back of the jersey features Carter’s last name and number 9. The front features a red and white USA graphic, with Carter’s number 9. There is a “USA Basketball” patch and Champion logo on the lower front left of the jersey. On the interior of the jersey is a tag that reads, “DESIGNED AND TAILORED EXCLUSIVELY FOR 2000 OLYMPIC TEAM USA BASKETBALL SYDNEY”. The jersey is marked size 50, while the shorts are size 44. Both the jersey and shorts have tags noting alterations to the manufacturer size.

The uniform is accompanied by a Letter of Opinion from MEARS Authentication, LLC, in regards to use with an A5 Final Grade. This set is also accompanied by the original lot listing from Grey Flannel Auctions, which states provenance from an Assistant Coach.
