Prof. Jhr. Dr. Jan Six van Hillegom en Wimmenum (1857-1926);
Jhr. ir. G.C. (Gijs) Six van Wimmenum (1892–1975), thence by decent to the present owners
The Sint Agnes church of Egmond aan Zee, situated right beside the sea, was engulfed and destroyed in 1741. The Six family manor of Wimmenum was situated next to the village, and therefore the Six family were avid collectors of paintings and drawings of the village, castle and abbey of Egmond.
As Charles Dumas has kindly informed us, although the maker of these distinctively drawn views cannot currently be identified, they are of considerable historical interest, as they show a shack, to the left of the church, where old and retired fishermen came together to talk with about the past, while looking out over the sea. Several representations are known of a comparable shack at Scheveningen (called the Kalhuis), but until now, it was not known that a comparable structure existed at Egmond.
