Sylvie Fleury emerged in the early 1990's, presenting work that drew on elements from both twentieth-century art and a larger, consumer society. Exploiting paradoxes and the ambiguity of futility, Fleury developed a diverse oeuvre that has continually expanded the range of its interpretations. Exploring the contemporary artifacts of luxury clothing and accessories, the world of Formula 1 racing, modern and contemporary art, fashion and news publications, and everyday domestic objects, Fleury has forged an artistic sensibility that continually reinvents itself, layering its meanings upon one another, and finding new ways to explore our collective consciousness.
Recent solo exhibitions of Fleury’s work include those at Kunstraum Dornbirn, Austria; Almine Rech, Paris; and Istituto Svizzero di Roma, Rome. Her work has been included in exhibitions at Song Art Museum, Beijing; Almine Rech, Brussels; and Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris.
