Pedro de Aponte is considered to be one of the founders of the Aragonese School of painting. He is believed to have studied with Luca Signorelli and Domenico Ghirlandaio and was active in Italy by 1507.1
We are grateful to Dr. José Gómez Frechina for tentatively endorsing the attribution to Pedro de Aponte, on the basis of digital images. He compares the present work to the panels also attributed to Aponte, in the Museo Capitolare, Atri.2
