Baigneuse

bronze, on a veined marble base
height of bronze: 9 ¼ in.; 23.5 cm.
Aimé-Jules Dalou displayed a keen interest in capturing the female nude through sculpture. During his career, he continuously returned to the composition of the baigneuse or the woman bathing, incorporating slight variations to each piece.
These sculptures were typically executed first in plaster or terracotta for private collectors and it was not until after Dalou’s death in 1902 that the A. A. Hébrard Foundry began producing bronze casts of his work, such as this one.
