“I would like my canvases to offer a consolation (...) the painting to reach a formal perfection that satisfies the senses and the spirit so much that we can live together peacefully (...) I would like that with my paintings we could live in peace like a slow silent pendulum."
"Quiet" is the word needed to fully dive into Campigli's work. A world as serene as it is profound, in which archaic visions are mixed with modern psychoanalytic reflections and in which women - the artist’s lifelong favorite subject - are interpreted as a symbol of the infinite human bonds and contrasts.
It is with these assumptions that Campigli gives life to places that are both an expression of the concreteness of the present and, at the same time, containers of conceptual projections that lead to a distant elsewhere. He introduced elementary forms within environments that fluctuate in an impalpable and indecipherable dimension, and brought together the emotionality of human figures with the schematic nature of geometry.
It is precisely this intimate and accurate aesthetic sensitivity that makes Campigli's works so unique and unrepeatable.
“Vorrei che le mie tele offrissero una consolazione (...) che il quadro arrivasse ad una perfezione formale che appagasse sensi e spirito tanto da poterci vivere assieme pacificamente (...) vorrei che con i miei quadri si potesse convivere in pace come un lento pendolo silenzioso.”
“Quiete” è la parola necessaria per immergersi a pieno nell’opera di Campigli. Un mondo tanto sereno quanto profondo, in cui visioni arcaiche si mischiano a moderne riflessioni psicoanalitiche e in cui le donne - il soggetto da sempre prediletto dall’artista - vengono interpretate come simbolo degli infiniti connubi e contrasti umani.
E’ con questi presupposti che Campigli dà vita a luoghi che sono sia espressione della concretezza del presente sia, al tempo stesso, contenitori di proiezioni concettuali che portano ad un altrove lontano; ha immesso forme elementari all’interno di ambienti che fluttuano in una dimensione impalpabile ed indecifrabile; ha fatto incontrare l’emotività delle figure umane con la schematicità della geometria.
È proprio questa intima ed accurata sensibilità estetica a contraddistinguere l'opera di Campigli e a renderla così unica e irripetibile.
