The Tourbillon Souverain d’Egalite is a wristwatch designed by Francois-Paul Journe in 1999 to begin his venture with his own brand, the creation of this model was an immediate success as it not only harnesses a highly complicated Tourbillon movement but it was also the first and only wristwatch to feature a remontoire (constant force device). The combination of both mechanisms allows energy within the watch to be evenly dispersed along the multiple gears from beginning to end. The watch has immediately become a staple piece for F.P. Journe and has won them many horological awards. Constantly seeking to improve their watches, within the short 4 years of production, there have already been many changes made to the material used, dial layout and finishing. Collectors today have now identified 5 main generations for the Tourbillon Souverain d’Egalite commonly found in platinum case, brass movements and yellow, white or rose gold dials. In 2003, the Tourbillon Souverain d’Egalite was eventually discontinued and soon replaced by the Tourbillon Souverain Avec Seconde Morte collection.
The present watch is a Tourbillon Souverain d’Egalite from the 38mm Steel Set collection. Greatly resembling the fourth generation of the Tourbillon Souverain d’Egalite model, acclaimed for its small dial screws, thick font, white colour metal and bronze-patina dial, it is a beautiful piece that exemplifies the charming characteristics of the originals.
