"Peter Newman's sculpture is contemplative and with a strong physical presence; it examines the Utopian values of Modernist art but also has a transcendental quality to it."
Tim Marlow, Thinking Big: Concepts for 21st Century British Sculpture, Venice, Peggy Guggenheim Museum, 2002-03

Skystation was designed as an interactive public sculpture which also functions as a piece of public seating. Inspired by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand's famous LC4 chaise-longue, the contours of the work perfectly fit the reclining human form, while the sculpture’s circular shape brings the users’ heads into close proximity. Versions of Skystation have been installed in numerous public spaces both in the UK and abroad, including the Hayward Gallery, Canary Wharf and Trafalgar Square in London as well as the Turner Contemporary Museum in Margate, the New Art Centre at Roche Court and the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg. A maquette of Skystation was first shown during the 2002 Architectural Biennale at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice.
