Jeff Koons Ballerinas present a scene of intimacy and artistic conspiracy. Inspired by the painted scenes of Edgar Degas, Koons has decided to portray the simple moment of a dancer tying another woman’s ballet slipper. A similar work in the artist’s Ballerina series was raised and displayed near the Rockefeller Center in New York in 2017. These explorations into the inner world of the dancing performers have been found to be closely related to Ukrainian porcelain sculptor Oksana Zhnikrup (1931-1993). This scene of intimate delight lets us reach into the necessary complicity required for the creation of any artwork, be it painted, sculpted or performed.
