The painting is sold with a letter from the Artist to Mrs Mann dated 1 June 1969 in which he writes: "I have received information from the Secretary of the RA that you wish to buy a watercolour of mine called Horn Head VI. I am so glad you like it. As you may guess it was painted on the edge of a cliff which had a nasty drop into the sea, so perhaps because of what seemed to be a precarious position - endured in bad weather, with wind & a drop of rain - I have felt this painting to be one of the better efforts achieved last summer in Donegal."
