There is a small tear on the lower left margin, otherwise the painting is in good condition overall. Some foxing has been cleraed. Framed.

陳福善在現代香港藝壇舉足輕重,以不受中國傳統繪畫觀念束縛的夢幻視覺繪畫聞名。1905年出生於中美洲巴拿馬,幼時隨家人來港定居,後在律師行和廣告公司任職。在參與英國的函授藝術課程後,他轉研西畫,特別是水彩畫,以及版畫和抽象表現主義繪畫技巧結合的藝術探索。初時,陳福善被認爲是中國藝術界的「局外人」,於是他便和一些外國人成了香港藝術家社團,投入中外藝術社團舉行的活動及研討,並和來自中國內地的藝術家交流。陳福善通過在香港所接觸的現代發展,以西方視角配以中國傳統繪畫元素的養分來奠定自己的藝術風格。
《一鉤眉月 》表現出了陳福善繪畫的非凡想象力,也是現代中國城市散居的視覺呈現。日常生活的人物和事物加入到異想天開的景觀中有一種超現實的清新感覺,這對中國繪畫來說是不一樣的。在中國大陸和香港的動蕩歷史背景下,陳福善的作品最能體現文化的衝突和身份喪失帶來的焦慮反應。他那節奏歡快、色彩濃烈的畫面是在動蕩年代的日常生活下快樂體現。
