Biography

Brad Bentoff is Vice Chairman and a senior member of the Sotheby’s Collectors Group, with an influential role in expanding the company's global business development programs and initiatives. Since joining Sotheby’s in 1993, Mr. Bentoff has been working with clients at the highest levels across every category of collecting. He engages in both the purchasing and consigning aspects of the auction process, offering tailored solutions for private sales, and has built a reputation for successfully handling significant consignments throughout his career.

While involved with every major collecting category at Sotheby’s Mr. Bentoff works closely on Impressionist and Modern Art, Contemporary Art, and American Art. Additionally, he has an extensive background in the fields of American, English, and French Furniture. Over the years, he has cultivated long-standing relationships with a select group of individuals, advising them on both acquisition strategies and the sale of their collections. His client-centric approach ensures that each engagement is characterized by trust, discretion, and personalized service, resulting in enduring partnerships and successful outcomes.

As Sotheby’s principal auctioneer since 2019, Mr. Bentoff oversees the auctioneer program and leads the training of new auctioneers across North America. He has presided over some of Sotheby’s most high-profile sales, including the iconic Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis collection, the estates of Johnny Cash and Katherine Hepburn, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and the collection of Lilly and Edmund Safra, among others. In addition to his auction duties, Mr. Bentoff frequently volunteers his time as an auctioneer at charity events, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community.

Mr. Bentoff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University (1990) and furthered his studies at the Sotheby’s Institute in London, focusing on 17th and 18th-century Decorative Arts.
