Georgia O’Keeffe once said, “I feel there is something unexplored about women that only a woman can explore.” Featuring works by nine of the 20th century’s most influential female artists, Sotheby’s selling exhibition Now You See Me does just that. On 10 February, Sotheby’s and Dior welcomed guests to a private opening reception. In her opening remarks, Claudia Kozma Kaplan, SVP Client Development of Dior Couture, discussed the exhibition’s timeliness with the fashion house whose first female creative director’s collection launched in January. Elizabeth Goldberg, Sotheby’s SVP, Chairman, American Art, also shared her inspiration for the exhibition concept: after O’Keeffe’s Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 sold at Sotheby's for a record $44.4 million, Goldberg noted, “This was a milestone for women, something to celebrate and continue thinking about.” Joining Goldberg was Adam Sheffer, board president of The Art Dealers Association and a partner and Cheim & Read gallery, which shows Joan Mitchell and Lynda Benglis, both of whom are in Now You See Me. Also on hand was artist Ghada Amer, who shared her personal success story. Click ahead for images from the empowering evening. –Stephanie Sporn
